CAE provides computing resources in the College of Engineering.
Welcome
Overview: Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) is a College of Engineering facility available to any student with an engineering major or enrolled in an engineering course, as well as faculty and staff of the College of Engineering. CAE provides access to facilities and resources which allow you to effectively compute on the engineering campus.
Getting a CAE account: As a new user, you must first get a CAE account. You can either activate your CAE account online or at a Windows workstation in any of the CAE labs. Your CAE Account will give you access to both Windows and Unix workstations, as well as a host of other resources.
Logging In: You may log-in once your CAE account is functional (usually within an hour of activation). For Windows, you must enter your username and password after pressing Ctrl + Alt + Del while for Unix enter your login name and password at the login prompt. For help on logging in, see the Logging In page.
CAE Resources: CAE accounts provide you with the tools you need to effectively and efficiently compute within the college of engineering. You have access to a broad range of resources and services which include: Windows XP and Unix computer lab access, networked file space, laser and color printers, hundreds of software titles, email and webpage access, CAE consultants (student-run help desk) in Rm. 172 CAE building, by phone at 262-5349, or helpdesk@cae.wisc.edu, software manuals and tutorials, online help, access to account management features, CAE file restoration and access to summer accounts.
FastStart: FastStart is designed to teach new users how to use the various technologies available at the UW-Madison College of Engineering from the very beginning. It is a great place to go to get started using CAE's resources. FastStart provides basic information about buying a computer, getting wired and wireless network access, using CAE Webemail and accessing any of the hundreds of software titles CAE offers.
